Integrated compressed storage
Core stores data in compressed form and manages physical storage. Your logical model remains defined by tables, columns and schemas. Access and calculation structures complement this organization for the queries you execute.
Observe executions
Automatic tuning must be enabled. Repeated queries can be analyzed in the background to identify eligible structures. Learning counters live in memory and reset when the engine restarts.
Build a useful structure
Indexes, column projections and pre-aggregates are distinct structures. An explicit columnstore index command builds its requested projection. Workload learning can also create structures for eligible queries.
Choose the execution path
An existing pre-aggregate does not force its use. The optimizer can prefer row or column reads if their estimated cost is lower. Plans and metrics expose the chosen execution path.
Keep control
The “Ignore optimizations” option forces row-page reads and excludes learning for that execution. It does not disable the RAM cache. Created structures persist, while learning counters do not.
